All of the details for our DIY Catholic art ledge, all in one place! This is a high frequency question on Instagram, and I am finally delivering! Ha! Everything I can share about this little pocket of our home, all in one blog post.
First:
The ledge!
Ours is 10ft long, and my husband used prestain, then Golden Oak stain by Miniwax on standard pine. It was a quick project! He followed the Chris Loves Julia Art Ledge directions loosely, but used pre-cut sections rather than splitting one board as they do. Angela Rose Home offers a version of the CLJ project, too! In my IG stories highlights, under “home + design,” I have our in-progress images and videos saved, you can peek at those too. I love how simple and customizable this ledge project is!
Second:
The gifted pieces!
Okay - some of these I can’t link for you, because they were gifts or bought locally at a Catholic bookstore in the Dallas, TX area. Those three are the Saint Joseph in the middle, the Miraculous Medal framed holy card, and the Innocence by William-Adolphe Bouguereau framed print.
Third:
Links!
From left to right order:
Feet of Christ - Brie Schulze Art
Christ Before the Crowd - Elizabeth Zelasko
Chaste Heart of Joseph - Outpouring of Trust
Blessed Sacrament in the Monstrance - Catholic to the Max
Three Hearts - Catholic to the Max
Shroud of Turin - Brie Schulze Art
Styling tips for an art ledge (from a design amateur!):
Decide if you want all one frame color, or if you will vary the color of the frames. If varying, you can pull from the colors in the rest of the room to make the shelf a cohesive element to the overall room!
Vary heights. You want a mix of large, medium, and small prints to layer and play with. You’ll have a lot of styling options if you have enough height variety!
Start small. We started this project and only added three pieces we already owned, and added slowly over three months as the home/miscellaneous budget would allow. You don’t need to be able to afford all of the pieces and frames at once, and it also gives you time to get used to styling it and to find your favorite pieces!
